Meet the Blogger:
While teaching, I loved planning fun learning activities for my students--especially hands-on, messy, out-of-the box activities. Sadly, it did not take me long to discover that the world of public education did not include time for this kind of learning. Testing (and preparation for testing) took over the entire school year and the first thing it replaced was anything fun!
The decision to quit teaching was not an easy one for me (especially after spending thousands of dollars and hours earning my Masters). But, when an opportunity came my way, I took a risk. Right away, I knew I wanted to blend my love of teaching with my new career in web design, social media, and e-Learning. Before long, Heart Shaped Blocks was born.
The goal of Heart Shaped Blocks is to give parents, caregivers, nannies, and teachers a place to explore the part of learning we all loved as kids. As adults, we forget the wonder and excitement of creativity, learning, and growing and I want to help you remember again!
Many of the ideas you will find on this blog are activities I did (or dreamed of doing) as a preschool teacher, 1st and 2nd grade teacher, camp counselor, Sunday school teacher, and nanny.
My goal will be to turn these activities into an entire homeschool curriculum I could one day use with my own children. My long-term plan includes creating online games and informal assessments for anyone who wants to round out the mostly hands-on curriculum.
Through this journey, I hope to find my love of learning again and I hope you will join me!
